Intervals.icu is a free training analytics platform used by cyclists, runners, and triathletes worldwide. Connecting it to REN lets you manage your training in one place - with completed workouts flowing in and structured REN workouts flowing out to your devices.
Why connect Intervals.icu?
Once connected, Intervals.icu acts as a hub between REN and your other training tools. Here's what that means in practice:
- Activities in: Any workout you complete and sync to Intervals.icu - via Garmin, Apple Health, Coros, Suunto, or other supported devices - will automatically appear in REN, keeping your full training history in one place. Note that Strava activities are not included in this sync due to limitations on Strava's end.
- Workouts out: Structured workouts created by REN are pushed to Intervals.icu, where they can then be synced to any connected device or platform.
- Richer analytics: View your REN training load alongside all your other activity data in one place.
Before you connect
⚠️ Important: For structured REN workouts to sync correctly via Intervals.icu, you must have Threshold Speed set in your Intervals.icu settings. Without this, your pace targets will not transfer across.
To set your Threshold Speed in Intervals.icu:
- Open Intervals.icu and go to Settings.
- Navigate to Athlete Settings and find the Run section.
- Under Pace Settings, enter your Threshold Speed (this corresponds to your Critical Speed / CS pace in REN).
- Save your changes before connecting to REN.
💡 Tip: Not sure what your Threshold Speed is? You can find your Critical Speed (CS) pace in REN under Settings > Thresholds. Use this as the value to enter in Intervals.icu.
How to connect Intervals.icu to REN
- Open REN and go to Settings.
- Select Connected Apps and tap Intervals.icu.
- Follow the prompts to authorise the connection.
- Once connected, REN will begin syncing workouts and activities automatically.
What syncs - and in which direction?
| What | Direction | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Completed activities | Intervals.icu → REN | Runs logged via any platform connected to Intervals.icu will appear in REN. |
| Structured workouts | REN → Intervals.icu | Your upcoming REN workouts are pushed to Intervals.icu and can be synced to your device from there. |
| Pace targets | REN → Intervals.icu | Requires Threshold Speed to be set in Intervals.icu for targets to display correctly. |
Troubleshooting
Workouts aren't showing the correct pace targets
Make sure Threshold Speed is set in your Intervals.icu athlete settings. This is the most common cause of pace targets appearing blank or incorrect.
Activities aren't syncing to REN
Check that the platform you record on (e.g. Garmin, Apple Health) is connected to Intervals.icu and that Intervals.icu is authorised in REN's Connected Apps. It can take a few minutes for a new activity to appear.
I disconnected and reconnected - do I need to do anything?
After reconnecting, your upcoming workouts will re-sync automatically. If anything still looks off, try sending the workout again from within REN.
Why does REN ask for settings permissions?
We use settings permissions to ensure you have a threshold pace set up in your athletic profile. You can refuse to give us this permission if you fill in or already have the pace filled in.
Once everything is set up, you shouldn't need to think about it - REN and Intervals.icu will stay in sync automatically as you train. If anything ever looks out of place, the Connected Apps section in REN settings is the best place to start.
