One of our most commonly requested features is here! REN now lets you train toward more than one goal at a time and structure everything underneath it.
- Main Goal = a race you're training for. Plan more than one at a time - a marathon and a half marathon in the same season and plan your training calendar into the future.
- Subgoal = a milestone on the way to a main goal - a race (tune-up, time trial) or a session (intervals, easy run), tracked on its own but in the context of the bigger goal.
Is it a 'main goal' or a 'subgoal'?
There's no strict rule - it depends on how much importance you place on it. Specifically training for it → main goal. Something on the way there → subgoal, whatever the distance.
A good example: a half marathon one month out from your target marathon. You haven't trained specifically for the half - your plan is still built around the marathon - but you'll likely run it well anyway, off the back of your marathon prep. That's what a high-priority subgoal is for: it lets your plan flex around race day (replacing a workout, adding a short taper) without changing what your training is actually building toward. A 5K subgoal during marathon prep won't add extra VO2max sessions of its own.
Main Goals - how to stack them and set one up
- Go to REN > Settings > Training goal.
- Under your existing goals, tap Plan next goal.
- Choose a distance and a date.
Good to know: No limit on how many goals you can stack. You can rename any goal to keep things organised.
Subgoals - how to set one up
- Go to REN > Settings > Training goal.
- Under an existing goal, tap + Add subgoal.
- Choose the effort type - race, intervals, or easy.
- Set the distance, date, and focus - from "This is a priority" to "I want a good result" to "it's just on the calendar."
Good to know: No limit on subgoals per main goal. Subgoals can exist without a parent main goal.
