Battery died during a run? Forgot to start your watch? You can still get that session into REN by creating a FIT file and uploading it to Garmin Connect. Once it’s in Garmin Connect (and your REN ↔ Garmin connection is active), it will sync to REN automatically. (runwithren.com)
When to use this
Use the FIT File Generator if you want to log a run that didn’t get recorded on your device (or didn’t produce an uploadable file), but you still know the key details like duration and distance.
How it works
- Open the FIT File Generator on the REN website. (runwithren.com)
- Fill in your workout details:
- Run type: Outdoor Run or Indoor Run (Treadmill)
- Date & time
- Duration (max 100 minutes)
- Distance (km)
- Average heart rate (optional)
- REN calculates your average pace automatically
- Click Generate & Download FIT File. (runwithren.com)
- Upload the FIT file to Garmin Connect (web):
- Sign in to Garmin Connect
- Go to Import Data
- Choose the FIT file and import it (Garmin Support)
- Make sure your REN ↔ Garmin Connect connection is active.
- After the activity appears in Garmin Connect, it should sync to REN automatically. (runwithren.com)
Notes and limitations
- This tool is designed for syncing to REN via Garmin Connect, since the FIT file is uploaded there first.
- The generator uses the inputs you provide (distance/time, optional average HR) to create a clean activity file—accuracy depends on what you enter.
Troubleshooting
The upload worked in Garmin Connect, but I don’t see it in REN
- Confirm your REN ↔ Garmin connection is active (disconnect/reconnect if needed).
- Give it a few minutes, then fully close and reopen REN.
- Make sure the activity shows correctly in Garmin Connect first (if it’s not there, REN can’t import it). (Garmin Support)
Garmin Connect won’t let me upload the FIT file
- Make sure you’re using Garmin Connect Web and uploading via Import Data. (Garmin Support)
- Check that the run duration is 100 minutes or less (the generator limit).
Indoor vs outdoor—what should I pick?
- Choose Indoor Run (Treadmill) for treadmill runs.
- Choose Outdoor Run for outside runs.
